Erkan Saka Speaks on the New Media Control in Europe

ImageErkan Saka, Assistant Professor of the School of Communication, attended as a speaker to the Congress track on the Open Access and Digital Resources of the conference meeting, Sleepwalking in a control society: Committee on Free Access to Information and Freedom of Expression (FAIFE), organized in Helsinki.

In his 15 minute speech on the new media control in Europe, Saka classified major problems related to Internet regulation in Turkey in four categories: a) politicized and arbitrary regulative patterns due to a centralized state commanded internet regulation, b) arbitrary range of crimes to ban websites, c) arbitration on the implementation of Internet use-related laws, d) lack of understanding on the nature of web 2.0 sites.
